Invitation to Worship

Opening Song           I Sing Praises to Your Name

*Call to Worship
ONE: Behold God in the heavens, stretched out like a tent.

MANY: Hear God’s voice in the winds, whispering words of life and love.
ONE: Witness God’s glory in fire and flame, dancing colors of orange and red.
MANY: Take refuge in God on the mountains, silent, strong, and immovable.
ONE: Rest in the wisdom of God, hidden in the clouds above and seas below.
MANY: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and bless God’s holy name.

*Communal Prayer
God of wind and water, God of love and compassion, God of all that is and all that ever shall be, when Job insisted, he was innocent of every sin, you came to him in a whirlwind, and showed him the wonders of a world he had not made. When James and John asked Jesus for power and glory, he told them that they would share in the bitter cup that he would drink, and in the baptism of suffering that he would endure for the world. Remind us that we are members of the body of Christ, and that we are called to serve your creation in love and compassion. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.
